Waymo co-CEO Takedra Mawakana emphasized that robotaxi companies need to do more to publicly demonstrate the safety of their autonomous fleets, citing a lack of transparency from competitors.

Waymo’s own data shows their autonomous vehicles are five times safer than human drivers overall, and twelve times safer concerning pedestrians, highlighting their prioritization of safety amid scaling.

Mawakana’s comments implicitly highlight the limited data disclosure by other companies like Tesla, which only publishes quarterly vehicle safety reports focused on highway Autopilot usage and has not shared public data on its robotaxi program safety.
